Hello everyone!
Today a new driver for the Universal USB DMX box has been released (v1.2.346.0). This solves a problem that prevented you to properly install the drivers on a PC where Maxxyz PC and LightJockey were installed together.
How to proceed? - uninstall the previous version of the driver in the "software" section of Windows. It is called "Martin Universal USB-DMX". There is NO need to uninstall LightJockey or Maxxyz PC itself. - Disconnect all attached DMX boxes from the PC - download the driver from the ftp:
ftp://ftp.martin.dk/Controller/Universal%20USB%20DMX%20INterface/
- make sure that Maxxyz PC and LightJockey are not running. - Install the driver with the .exe file. Windows might install some additional components (automatically) - Reconnect the USB box. - Re-detect the USB boxes in LightJockey if needed. - Have fun!
If you installed this new driver, please note: when you get a warning (popup box) during the first startup of LJ that there is a new version of the USB driver, please ignore it as you just installed the latest version!

| Do you have an ETA date for the Win 7 drivers (64 bit) for this? If it's going to be awhile, I need to find an old windows xp box to keep us running... |

| Hi there, I downloaded this driver. When I try to install it, I receive and error before the install is finished and it doesn't work. I picked up a HP tablet laptop running vista on it (I'm not a huge fan of vista) however, I have to find a way to get LJ to work. The program is loaded and my profiles are ready to go, I just need to get the drivers for the dongle to work. I have a universal usb dmx. Thanks for any help. Cheers |

| Hi Paul, It says it's running vista 64 bit. So does this mean I wasted my money on a this computer that I purchased special for light jockey? (sorry just venting) I am planning on upgrading to windows 7. will LJ work with that operating system? thanks Barry |

Hello Barrykay, we are working on a 64-bit driver for the Universal USB DMX box for LJ on Vista & Win7. The current version only works in Vista & Win7 for Maxxyz PC. As soon as it is ready and tested properly, we will release it online.

Hi All!
I'm a mobile DJ and I have a Toshiba laptop running 32-bit Vista. It's primary purpose will be to run light shows at my gigs. I just purchased LightJockey2 from my lighting dealer and I'm waiting for it to be delivered. I would like a clear answer from one of the Martin administrators on the following: A) Does Martin recommend I upgrade to Win7 32-bit BEFORE I install LJ2?
B) If I do upgrade the OS before installing, will all of the LJ2 functionality work on Win7? (I mean NOT having to run the OS in XP compatibility mode, which is a severe processor/resource hog.)
C) I read in another thread that there were problems getting the Offline Visualizer to work in Win7, and files needed to be downloaded to correct. Will I have to do the same, or will the package of LJ2 I'm getting this week have all the latest & greatest file upgrades (ddl) & drivers?
Thanks |

I've uninstalled driver and am trying to install this version but near the end of installation I get an error 2753, The file 'wdreg_gui.exe. 7833522C_2E09_4504_BDC7_DDC7F3 462BBD' is not marked for installation. Any ideas? Vista 32 machine with Maxxyz PC installed. |

It works very well, but You have to set Win XP compatibility mode for this application (Uploader doesn't recognize Win 7 and in the case of unknown OS, the program refuses to look for any interfaces). Of course, I am talking only about the 32-bit version of Win 7. If You are going to use 64-bit edition, You have to wait for Martin to make the proper driver (I have modified the original one and LJ works like a charm on my Win 7 x64, but I can't publish it).

This is the part of my e-mail that I sent on 16th December 2009 to one of Martin R&D managers:
quote: (...)
I've switched to Windows 7 x64 two weeks ago and I didn't realized that 64-bit OS doesn't support these boxes. I suppose You are already working on this, but I needed the solution as fast as possible, as I recently use this interface very often, but having 10 Gigs of diskspace less because of the second 32-bit OS is nothing nice with 100 Gigs HDD. I decided to make a deep research and try to make Universal USB/DMX able to work with my Win 7 by myself. Successfully I prepared the solution and now my Universal USB/DMX Interface works like a charm on Windows 7 64-bit with LightJockey, Software Uploader and all of the other stuff like Config Utility, Firmware Updater and Box Checker :-) In the attachment You can find the ZIP archive containing single executable which is the full working x64 driver installer made in NSIS. After installation, everything behaves the same way as when You work under 32-bit OS with Your current driver.
I have been searching how the driver works and looking for all the dependencies. As You are using Jungo WinDriver SDK, the main thing was to replace it's kernel module with the newer and 64-bit version and update all the API libraries with the proper '32-to-64-bit' wrappers and if I remember well, some modification in the INF file. There was one problem with the driver dll module 'MartinUSBDMX.dll' causing 'uncatchable' BSoD-s. This was the most difficult part and I had to use the debugger to spend some time on analyzing which was necessary to found out what was wrong and fix it (there is some extra asm code added after the first WDU_Init() function call). I hope You won't be angry about that, I haven't changed anything except one problematic thing, that didn't want to cooperate with the '32-to-64-bit' API wrappers. The NSIS installer made all the job needed to launch the driver in Your system: - check if You're running 64-bit OS - copy all the needed files and libraries to proper folders - install MSVC++ 2005 libraries needed by the Config Utility - register the kernel module of WinDriver - register the Universal USB/DMX box driver with the handle to kernel module - make Start Menu shortcuts ('Martin Professional -> Universal USB-DMX') - write an uninstall entry in 'Control Panel -> Programs and Features' and uninstall shortcut in 'Start Menu -> Martin Professional -> Universal USB-DMX' (the uninstaller, also made with the use of NSIS, cleans up all the copied files / libraries, unregisters kernel module / interface handle to kernel module and uninstalls MSVC++ 2005 libraries, so You shouldn't be worry about applying this driver to Your system - You can always get back to the previous state)
If You have any questions about that, just let me know. I realize that You, as the LJ developer having all the sources, should have any problems with the x64 driver, so I think it is not necessary to write more detailed informations. I'm happy from being able to install LJ 2.9.1, SW Uploader 5.10 (it has to have Win XP compatibility mode set in Vista and 7, which of course can be easily fixed in the code, but I didn't want the driver installer to modify any executables), then apply my modified driver and finally use the interface on the 'main' system (it has been checked on two different PC-s running Windows 7 x64 and every tool works OK - the interface sends and receives DMX signal correctly). And of course it's even nicer to have 10 Gigs of diskspace more :-)
(...)
I hoped You received it too (I mean the persons who work on LJ software development). Check Your e-mail box, I've sent You the installer.
Best Regards, emilm |

OK thanks for the Info. I will forward this to the programmer. One of them already told me the USBDMX.dll was the fault.
Email directly, I'd like to try it out. Email me without the installer as it will probably be blocked.

| So... to be clear. If I'm running a computer with Vista 64-bit, there is NO way to get the Driver for the Universal DMX box to work. |

You are correct. Sorta. Martin has been promising drivers since Fall 2009, but not making good on it. There is a beta driver available above, but it's been my experience that all it does is bluescreen windows.

| If somebody from Martin (maybe Paul) give me the permission, I could publish my modified driver. It works OK in Vista x64 / 7 x64 without BSoD-s. It can be temporary solution until the official driver will be released. |

Emilm, sounds like you have the solution to the issue I'm having. Running 7 x64, are you able to shoot me the file to correct this issue?
It would save me from having to downgrade this machine.

Hi,
I'm fed up, It's the third PC I install for friends who use only lightjockey. Since SEPTEMBER, seven is out, there is no vista at all in new computer, (a bad idea to return to vista ...), and I don't want to return on XP (release 9 years ago !!!).
seven X64 is on about a half of the computers in market.
I must hack another XP (or pay 250€ ?), format, reinstall, drivers (may not exist on new hardware !).
Loose 3 hours of my time for an hardware material I paid too much money I think.
Yes martin lightjockey is a great software, professional, powerful etc.
But if you continue in this way, customers can't make anything with your product... Drivers on vista was very difficult to install, people who are not confident with computers can'
So if you have a driver, beta, alpha, modif on the source code, or anything which is working, please, please put it on internet !
Ps: your last driver for seven x64 is not working, (2 different computer and 2 same lightjockey hardware) |

The latest Universal DMX box driver for LJ is compatible with Win7 32 bit but not yet for 64 bit
We do have a 64bit driver for Maxxyz PC, so we are on the right track.
I'll keep posting in the development here.

| Paul, I tried the new trial driver you're testing that you posted above, I'm using it on a 64 bit windows HP Touchsmart PC, and when I go into lightjockey and click 'detect DMX Hardware', I get the Blue screen of death every time... |
